Updated Books to Movies List

May 31, 2011
Okay, I've updated my list. And then there were six. Yay.

  • Children of Men (P.D. James)
  • Fight Club (Chuck Palahniuk)
  • About a Boy (Nick Hornby)
  • Trainspotting (Irvine Welsh)
  • Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)
  • The Virgin Suicides (Jeffrey Eugenides)

I've been carrying Children of Men around in my bag for a couple of weeks now and I still haven't gotten back to it. GAH. Methinks this is going to be a tough challenge. Ahaha. Plus I've to look for the movie versions. I've already seen half of them, but I want to watch them again for the challenge, which officially starts tomorrow. Ahaha good luck to me.

Blog Post-Its

May 26, 2011
Too busy/lazy to blog! So I'm just going to do little snippets for the next posts or so! Yay!
First up is my draft book list for the Books to Movies challenge! Yay! I've already started on Children of Men, but I'm only a few pages in so I still have a bit of a way to go.

Books to Movies Challenge

May 20, 2011
Aha! I haven't read anything in such a long time that I've decided to join a reading challenge! I read about it in a post by Jai and I followed the yellow brick road to the challenge host: Two Bibliomaniacs.

The challenge begins June 1st and ends Dec 31st. All you gotta do is read a book and watch the movie adaptation. You can choose any book. You can also choose to read 2, 4, 6, or 8 books. Sounds easy enough, right? I'm going to try to go for at least 2. Haha. If I can do more, that will be great. I just bought a book a few days ago and it was one that was already made into a movie. Guess I'm off to a good start, eh? :P

If you're up for a book and movie challenge, go to this awesome place and read more about it.

In other news, it's TGI-Friday and I'm blog guesting at A Taste of T today!

Enjoy the weekend, everyone! :)

Is there a station coming up where I can board your giggling train of thought?

May 19, 2011
Ah, Dr. Sheldon Cooper, how I adore you.  That line up there's from episode 23 of The Big Bang Theory Season 4. Fun stuff! Check out more Sheldon quotes here. :)

So I've a lot of post ideas in my head but I'm having trouble organizing my thoughts, so I thought I'd just ramble. Uh huh, I'm a Mastah of Rambling. Yeah, I'm a Mastah of everything. Say it with me, mastaahhh...

So, Carpet Head and I saw Fast 5 a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was great. Entertaining stuff, but I just gotta say, there is no way Vin Diesel can kick The Rock's ass (itty bitty spoiler!). I mean, c'mon! The Rock's wayyy bigger and stronger and cooler and better lookin'.  Okay, I have an itty bitty crush on The Rock, but seriously, lookithim! Anyway, Fast 5 also had a couple of gorgeous babes on the cast. There's Spanish-Hungarian-Romanian actress Elsa Pataky and Israeli model/actress Gal Gadot. Pretty pretty people. I want Gal Gadot's leather jacket.

Elsa Pataky happens to be the real life wife of lucky fool, Chris Hemsworth, the guy who played Thor, which we watched the week after Fast 5. Quick! Pop quiz! Who has a more massive neck - The Rock or Thor? HAHH. Seriously, those guys are huge. The movie was okay. I thought Tom Hiddleston, the guy who played Loki, was brilliant. And well, Natalie Portman was gorgeous as always. Her seductive lashes were like, up to here.

We also watched The Priest. Also pretty entertaining. I read some forum discussions about whether it's anti-Catholic or what not. Seriously, it's just a movie. Anyway, I think anything with Paul Bettany and Karl Urban is worth checking out.  I wonder if the graphic novel's any good.

ANYWAY, blah blah blah...

Stuff on the net

May 17, 2011
Yep, too lazy to write.  Look! Cool stuff from The Fancy!

Need a tea set for your bloody tea party?

I dare yah to use these stickies at work.

Are you sure that's beer in your glass?

Thanks to eggy for always sending links to cool stuff on the net.

All these cool things are for sale obviously. I don't shop online very often, but I've been aware of the convenience and ease of shopping online, especially when the items you want are only available at specific stores. There are many ways of shopping online and there are also many articles about shopping online! This article on the basic ways to shop online talk, for instance, about the sites you should check out first when shopping online. Based on the article, the web sites you can visit are the online shops of retail stores, online-only stores, third-party stores or auctions, and person-to-person sales. Online businesses have definitely taken advantage of the many uses of the internet!

Love to All Mothers :)

May 8, 2011
I got this in my email some years back. I've already shared this with some friends before, but I want to share it again.  Happy Mother's Day! :)

Motherhood

photo
For the moms, soon to be moms , would like to be moms...

A very touching story on being a Mom....

We are sitting at lunch one day when my daughter casually mentions that she and her husband are thinking of "starting a family."

"It will change your life," I say, carefully keeping my tone neutral.

"I know," she says, "no more sleeping in on weekends, no more spontaneous vacations."

But that is not what I mean at all. I look at my daughter, trying to decide what to tell her.

I want her to know what she will never learn in childbirth classes.

I want to tell her that the physical wounds of child bearing will heal, but becoming a mother will leave her with an emotional wound so raw that she will forever be vulnerable.

I consider warning her that she will never again read a newspaper without asking, "What if that had been MY child."

That every plane crash, every house fire will haunt her. That when she sees pictures of starving children, she will wonder if anything could be worse than watching your child die.

I look at her carefully manicured nails and stylish suit and think that no matter how sophisticated she is, becoming a mother will reduce her to the primitive level of a bear protecting her cub. That an urgent call of "Mom!" will cause her to drop a souffle or her best crystal without a moments hesitation.

I feel that I should warn her that no matter how many years she has invested in her career, she will be professionally derailed by motherhood.

She might arrange for childcare, but one day she will be going into an important business meeting and she will think of her baby's sweet smell.

She will have to use every ounce of discipline to keep from running home, just to make sure her baby is alright.

I want my daughter to know that every day decisions will no longer be a routine.

That a five year old boy's desire to go to the men's room rather than the women's at McDonald's, will become a major dilemma. That right there, in the midst of clattering trays and screaming children, issues of independence and gender identity will be weighed against the prospect that a child molester may be lurking in that restroom. However decisive she may be at the office, she will second-guess herself constantly as a mother.

Looking at my attractive daughter, I want to assure her that eventually she will shed the pounds of pregnancy, but she will never feel the same about herself.

That her life, now so important, will be of less value to her once she has a child. That she would give herself up in a moment to save her offspring, but will also begin to hope for more years, not to accomplish her own dreams, but to watch her child accomplish theirs. I want her to know that a cesarean scar and shiny stretch marks will become badges of honor.

My daughter's relationship with her husband will change, but not in the way she thinks.

I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is careful to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his child.

I think she should know that she will fall in love with him again for reasons she would now find very unromantic.

I wish my daughter could sense the bond she will feel with women throughout history who have tried to stop war, prejudice and drunk driving.

I want to describe to my daughter the exhilaration of seeing your child learn to ride a bike. I want to capture for her the belly laugh of a baby who is touching the soft fur of a dog or cat for the first time. I want her to taste the joy that is so real it actually hurts.

My daughter's quizzical look makes me realize that tears have formed in my eyes. "You'll never regret it," I finally say. Then I reach across the table, squeezed my daughters hand and offered a silent prayer for her, and for me, and for all the mere mortal women who stumble their way into this most wonderful of callings.

Please share this with a Mom that you know or all of your girlfriends who may someday be Moms. May you always have in your arms the one who is in your heart.

Hullo, Friday!

May 6, 2011
Big thanks to Claire of Spinning Threads for passing this on to moi! I am honored! Check out her fun blog, Spinning Threads. :)

Now, I'm supposed to post seven random things about myself. I've already done a similar post not too long ago, but that's perfectly okay! Like I said in that older post, I am a Mastah of Random Posts! Hah.

Erm, actually I had a hard time coming up with seven random things for that post (check #6 on that list), so this time I've decided to stick to a theme and I'm trimming it down to five things. Hah. The theme for this  Random Things post is Deep Dark Secrets. (cue eerie music in the background)

Here goes..

1. The first CD I ever bought was Code Red's Scarlet. AHAHAHA!! I do not know what possessed me to blow my school allowance on their frickin' CD back when CD's were considered a luxury. OMG.

2. Prior to that first-ever-CD-experience, I bought a cassette tape of Hanson's Mmmbop album. Goodness. Mmmbop! Doobadapba mmmbop!

3. I once wrote fan mail to that kid who played Colt in 3 Ninjas and I received a postcard in return. You can tell it was one of those things mass produced for fans 'cause it looked like it was just printed out from a computer.  Hah what a dork. That Colt kid, not me.

4. I think when I was three or four I ate an already-chewed-up piece of gum I picked up from the ground. Big EYEW, I know, but hey I was a kid! Didn't you eat gross things when you were young and didn't know any better??

5. Back in college, I was wearing this cool Bali tie-dyed shirt and baggy khakis when some guy complimented my shirt. I felt so cool and all day I was walking like I was cool. So cool that I tripped and fell forward when I was walking to my first class for the day. It had been raining so I got mud all over the front of my khaki pants. I went home to my dorm and missed class. Booo.

Yayyyy. Way to go.

Have a great weekend! :)

I want more t-shirts, by ME!!!

I think I should just do my t-shirt days on a semi-monthly basis. :P
