Hello, 2012.

I was gonna show pages from my 2011 scrapbook a.k.a. semi-useless 2011 Starbucks planner to recap the year that was, but I'm not really done sticking all the scrap things I saved from 2011. I'm not sure when I can actually do that these days, what with my fake job and all taking up most of my time now. I don't really feel like posting about new year's resolutions. I have my wishes and faith goals for the new year, but I don't feel like sharing them here.

What I'll share for now is a prayer that I first encountered in one of my Philo classes by the great Dr. Leo Garcia in Ateneo. It's one of the things that I really liked from that class apart from Dr. Garcia's charming ways. I lost my copy of this and I've been looking for it on the net for a long time. Finally found it. I'm not sure if this relates to my 2012 goals, but it's still really nice.

Prayer for Spiritual Revival

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.

-- Sir Francis Drake (1540 - 1596)

"Sir Francis Drake was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe. In 1581 he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I for this accomplishment. His poem inspires and challenges us to dream big, to sail out beyond the safety of the shore, and live boldly for God."

I'd completely forgotten Drake and this poem. Thank you for the reminder Lei!!!

It's okay not to share certain things...some things are just for ourselves. =)
