Finally finished reading the follow up to The Grimoire: Lichgates by author S.M. Boyce! In my review of Lichgates, I mentioned that I had a hard time getting into the book. Luckily, it wasn’t the same with the second book, Treason.

In this second installment, I think Kara and Braeden are more honest with themselves now. Kara has accepted her role as the Vagabond or keeper of the Grimoire and Braeden has realized and somewhat accepted what would inevitably happen. Their adventure continues although things are more dangerous and many things are not what they seem. Kara learns to harness her power and becomes stronger as a person, too. There’s more revealed between the romance between Kara and Braeden and I have to admit they both annoy me at some points. Oh, you know, they do stupid things that only people in love do. Hah.
Anyway, the book is a quick read, I should say. Kara and Braeden seem to be flying off to one adventure after another, not always together, most times saving each other. I felt like getting out an electronic organ or maybe Mapex Drums at musicians friend and creating my own background music to the fast pace of the book. Have you seen the animated film Rio? Remember that scene where the monkeys and the birds were about to battle and there was this little monkey just beating on a drum in the background? I wanted that monkey with me while reading Treason. Seriously.
I’m not so sure about how I feel about the twist at the end but it does make things more interesting between Kara and Braeden. I guess we’ll find out in the next book!
