Mid-Year Report: Checking in!

I just realized it’s already July and we’re halfway through the year. Thought I should do a mid-year report of some sort just to lay out how my year has been. Also, I wanted to blog about something personal to balance out all the book spotlights I’ve been doing for the last few weeks. I admit, all those bookish posts are a sign of how lazy I am to blog about other things.

Anyway, not gonna ramble long about that. So, I’m basing this mid-year check on my new year post last January. Here we go!

Goal 1: Read 3 books a month.

Yeah, not doing so well with this. It’s so hard for me to read a book these days. I pick up one and start reading it, then a few minutes into it I get distracted by something so I stop. And I don’t pick it up again for days or weeks. As of today I’ve only read three books. Hah. I’m trying not to get all worked up over it though. I think I just need to relax about the whole thing and let the desire to read come over me naturally. I have sooo many good books in my reading list and I really want to get to all of them. Gah. Anyway, that’s it. I’m taking it one book at a time.

Goal 2: Write everyday on my Q&A a Day Journal.

Hah! I didn’t even get past January. It’s so sad really haha. But it’s okay though. I enrolled in a 15-day writing workshop in May and I started a writing-related #100dayproject last month. I decided to write a short poem everyday for 100 days. It’s been okay so far. I miss a few days sometimes but I make up for it to catch up. It’s not really easy, but easier than the Q&A a Day, I think. I’m very determined to finish the 100 days. I’m on day 42, I think. This reminds me, I should get to it after I publish this post.

100dayproject
Apparently, when I’m days behind on my #100dayproject (one short poem a day for 100 days) and trying to make up for missed days, my brain reverts to rhyme. And I never write stuff that rhyme. 😝 #bahaha #thispoemissilly #deardiaryiwannabeaworddork #100daysproject #100daysofshortpoems #writing #abapumopoetry #rhymes #butilovefreeversemorebae

Goal 3: Start my 1 month unlimited yoga pass and practice regularly after.

Ah, this is one thing I’m really happy about! I’ve been practicing yoga regularly since late January! I go to classes at least 3 times a week – though I’m trying to target more days than that, including home practice. Eventually I want to get to the point where I practice every damn day and not necessarily in the studio.

BUT, I haven’t practiced since Monday last week because I injured my left knee during frisbee training (more on that in goal #4). I injured this knee a few years back but I was able to recover from it. Now I think I really need to have it checked. I’m seriously bummed about the whole injury, but I know I can’t let it get me down. I know I’ll recover and come back stronger. I’m just really bummed that it’s stopping me from practicing yoga. It’s been a week and I feel like I’m missing so much already. Sniff.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?” – Marianne Williamson 💕 . I was going to post some line or quote about bending or whatever but I came across this one and just loved it. Goal 4: Keep playing ultimate.

Up until last Monday, I was training regularly. Our team won a small weekend tournament a few weeks back and we’re preparing for two other tourneys. The next one’s next week but I decided to opt out of that because of my knee. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get stronger by the second tourney which is about three months away. It’s out of the country and it’s only our team’s second time to join an out-of-country tournament. I wasn’t able to play in the first one because that was during the time I took a year off due to health stuff.

I’m still contemplating retiring and focusing on yoga because, you know, my 30-something year old body’s creaky and I’m tired of running after kids. LOL. Plus, truth be told, I still suck at this sport. Haha. And I’m not even kidding. Thank the universe I have awesome teammates, which is what really counts. Maybe I just need to get back to strength training (I stopped when I went on hiatus).

Anyway, it doesn’t really matter whether I decide to keep playing or whatever. I think what really matters is that I start strength training again and, um, not stop because my creaky sexayyy body needs it. Haha. Yeah lezdodiz, Lei. LOL.

Goal 5: Eat healthy.

Yeah I think I’m doing fine with this. I’m not a super health freak (yet!) but I am more mindful of what I eat. I’ve stopped having sugar and dairy because I’ve realized sugar really contributes to my weight gain and dairy makes me feel bloated and gassy (hah). I’m not completely free of them though because sometimes there’s a little butter, a little milk and a little sugar in some food and drinks. I also try to eat less carbs and gluten.

Overall, I just try to eat healthy in any way I can. Like I said, I am more mindful now. Eventually I want stop eating so much meat and eat more fish and veggies. It’s not easy though cos the hubby’s a big carnivore. LOL. I try.

Goal 6: Learn more about chakras, meditation, crystals and tarot.

I’m not so obsessed about these things these days, unlike earlier this year when I really felt compelled to study these things. I still want to learn more about them though, especially meditation and chakras because I think I can relate them to yoga more. I’m thinking I’ll focus more on these two first then I’ll just see where I go from there. :)

Aaand that’s it.

That’s it for my mid-year report. It’s kinda long, isn’t it? Anyway, these are pretty much still the same things I want to focus on this year so hopefully I’ll have more luck with them in the next few months.

How’s your year so far? :)
