Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop (September 15 – 30)

It’s Banned Books Week! It’s that time of the year again when we celebrate the freedom to read.

What’s Banned Books Week, you ask?

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers — in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. — www.ala.org

  1. I love the Wizard of Oz and many books that stroke the imagination but others think they are evil are something weird.

  2. I have read several banned books, including 1984, The Giver, Lord of the Flies , and the Hunger Games series. My favorite challenged book is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

  3. There are so many of them and I really don’t understand why most of them are banned. I read To Kill A Mockingbird in hight school (main reason is that it was mandatory) It was not banned at the time, and I enjoyed it!!

  4. I was surprised about Snow White & the seven dwarves but not as much when i read it was challenged in Qatar. Still don’t understand but who knows…

  5. My favorite is Harry Potter! We love those books and movies, and despite it being “religious” people that seemed to want it banned.. we attend church and are religious. I just don’t think a bit of magic is harmful!

  6. I’ve been wanting to read I Am Jazz, especially since my cousin decided after reading it that Jazz’s story resonated very close to home and realized that he is transgender.

  7. Mark Twain’s “Letters From the Earth”. It was banned for years after it was written, and is hard to find now. Brilliant political/social satire.

  8. “What’s your favorite Challenged or Banned Book? Or is there a Challenged or Banned book that you’ve always wanted to read but haven’t yet?” I don’t know. I don’t know. I like Aldous Huxley!

  9. I’m not sure, because different places have different banned books and for a variety of reasons (excuses or agendas, more like)… I’ll say Harry Potter or Alice in Wonderland, because you wouldn’t think anyone believed they could stop anyone from reading them.
