Blog Tour and $25 Giveaway: Alexander Drake by Elizabeth Parkinson-Bellows

I kinda like reading middle grade books once in a while. They’re usually light and easy reads. The Alexander Drake books are no exceptions. I will be posting my review within the week! In the meantime, check out these books and enter the tour-wide giveaway. ;)

Alexander Drake’s Extraordinary Pursuit

Meet Alexander Drake, a curious young man living in a drab, oversized mansion with his secretive father. He spent his days playing alone. In the back of his mind he wondered what happened to his mother, and why his father was tight-lipped about the past; but secrets have a way of getting out.

It all started with a stay at his grandmother’s cottage. Alexander found strange clues tucked away in his father’s old bedroom. With a mysterious key and several maps in his pack he set off on an innocent search for answers about his family.

When he discovered a secret passageway the search took a dramatic turn. He suddenly worried about what was searching for him. Alexander was being hunted by a sorcerer from his father’s past. Answers lead to more questions and the journey of his life.

The Return of General Drake

When Alexander arrived in Verhonia, something went terribly wrong. A dark spell delivered from the mountains of Acadia sent him on a dangerous journey in the middle of the night. As he marched into the mountains, the great city of Verhonia was ambushed and burned to the ground by Roman’s army of vicious giant murks.

With the safety of the realm in jeopardy, General John William Drake was asked to come back to Azra’s Pith. He swore he would never return. But after discovering his son was under a spell and in the grips of a dark sorcerer, he had no choice.

Things take a wild turn in the mountains, with runaways, a hungry wolf and a mysterious, young empyrean wizard thrown into the adventure. A tight race against time and evil is in full swing. With faith and a little magic, they just might come out on top. — Publisher

While the rest of the realm settled in for the night, deep in the mountains of Acadia, a banished Empyrean by the name of Roman stirred restlessly in his dungeon cavern. Something dreadful was approaching.

“Hissss….” The scales of a giant snake scraped the walls of the cave, causing it to creak and shift. The flames in Roman’s dungeon suddenly went out. He knew Imperius was close.

“The boy musssst be destroyed.” The snake glided over to Roman. Its long tongue slithered across the Empyrean’s face.

“Yes, well, um, my ravens returned. The boy entered the passageway. Um, I’ve been thinking, if we attack Paraclete—” Before Roman could get his words out, Imperius’s yellow eyes blazed and turned flaming red, burning the tip of the Empyrean’s nose.

“Your whining is beginning to wear on me! You will have your vengeance on the king. First, I want the boy!” Imperius sneered. Its rattle shuddered, piercing Roman’s ears and shaking boulders off the tip of the mountain.

“Yes—yes, I-I-I understand. I will send the murks out to hunt him down,” said Roman nervously.

With one last hiss, Imperius slithered away, and the flames in the dungeon reappeared. Roman was beginning to second-guess his decision to become Imperius’s ally, as he felt like more of a servant than a partner. However, vengeance in the form of a surprise attack fueled his hate. Roman needed the alliance. His army consisted of Imperius’s followers. He only wondered if he could trust something so evil.

The banished Empyrean shoved his doubts to the back of his mind as he shuffled through the caves. “The sooner we finish that boy off, the sooner I will get my attack.”

He swung open the heavy wrought-iron gate and freed just enough vicious murks to get the job done. “Don’t return without the grandson of the king!” he cackled his orders to the murks, and the hunt was on.
