My favorite mostly-free stock photography sources

I always try to use my own photos on my blog, but I’m not great at taking awesome pictures, so sometimes I refer to my favorite sources of stock photography when I need a gorgeous image for a blog post.

I recently discovered a new source and was feeling so happy about it that it inspired me to write a post about my go-to stock photo sites!  So, yeah, this here’s it! Check out my favorite sources of mostly-free photos. Yayyy.

Her Creative Studio

Her Creative Studio is the new source I mentioned above. It’s not a free photo site, but I just wanted to give this shop a shoutout because the photos are absolutely gorgeous. The studio is run by Sandra and I discovered it through Creative Market. One of her styled stock photography bundle was free for the week and I decided to check it out. I fell in love with the photos and am using three on my homepage! And yes, the featured image I’m using for this post is also from that bundle. I’m especially giddy about my blog header image right now, so please check out Her Creative Studio and give her some love!

Death to the Stock Photo

I can’t remember when I first found out about Death to the Stock Photo, but it was from a newsletter by one of the writers/artists I subscribe to. Can’t remember now who it was. I immediately visited their website and have been a subscriber of their free monthly photos ever since. I love that their free monthly packs have a theme and the photos are always, always top notch. Death to the Stock has become my go-to for pretty pictures for my blog. If you want access to more photos, you can sign up for their premium membership.

I discovered Unsplash through an old writing gig. I rarely visit the site now but I’m still subscribed to their newsletter. I just like to keep myself updated with their new stuff, in case something catches my eye.

Um, that’s it. Haha.

  1. Hi Leah,

    Quite useful. Thanks for sharing.

I just wanted to let you know that I built a little tool (a bookmarklet) that lets you search from 30+ free stock photo sites. It’s 100% FREE, no ad, no optin popup.
It will make your image search much easier and faster!

    – Search by keyword or by image on more than 30 free stock photo sites
    – Select a keyword or an image on any webpage to find related free stock photos
    – Search on Google Image or on each stock photo site (multi-tab search)
    – Choose your multi-tab search limit: 5, 10 or 15 max
    – Speed up your search: save your default settings to adapt the tool to your specific needs

Let me know what you think.

  2. Great list! I absolutely love Unsplash for my stock photos. It’s just had to capture the perfect shot every time. (Though I am absolutely thrilled when I find that I already have the perfect shot!! Thanks for sharing your list!
