Did you know that 756 million people, aged 15 and older, from around the world can’t read or write? Of that number, 115 million are between the ages of 15 and 24, and two-thirds of them are women. That’s bad. :(
To celebrate International Literacy Day and help raise awareness of literacy and its importance to the world, Grammarly put together this infographic of the latest stats on literacy.
Finally got around to doing this review of the young adult dystopian slash science fiction book, Shadow of Deception (The Kazumi Chronicles, Book One) by author Sophia L. Johnson. Read more about the book and check out my review.

Faaaak, I just finished this long post, published it, decided to edit it and add a featured image, and it frickin’ disappears. So I had to write it all over again. Boo.
Anyway, I was going to do this post yesterday for What’s On Your Mind Wednesday, Also Known As Let Us Ramble About Stuff Day (it’s a real thing), but I didn’t get to finish it so it’s here, a day late. It’s a good time as any to ramble, I say.
Last Saturday Carpet Head and I had the chance to finally watch a musical together and it just happened to be an extremely awesome one: Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady The Musical (roughly translates to ‘How I became Leading Lady’). Our friends Tisha, JB and Che were sponsors of that Saturday’s show so there were a few of us from our ultimate team who watched.
I’m no Masterchef but I do like experimenting in the kitchen and I am perfectly capable of whipping up meals for me and the hubby. However, Carpet Head and I also order food delivery often. We usually order by phone and I haven’t tried ordering food online or through an app even though most restaurants have that option. That changed when I heard about Foodpanda, a relatively new online food delivery service.
Foodpanda is from the same group that brought us Zalora and Easy Taxi. The online food delivery service has already been operating in several countries before it launched in the Philippines in the middle of last year. The app is also available for download from the App Store, Windows Store, and Google Play.
I’m such a sucker for sci-fi lately so I jumped at the chance to check out this new book. Read my review of Dark Horse by Michelle Diener and check out the giveaway for this book blast!
Today we’re featuring Dark Innocence, book 1 in the Star-Seers’ Prophecy trilogy, by author Rahima Warren. I’m a real sucker for fantasy and I couldn’t pass this one up, especially since the series has been compared to works by J.R.R. Tolkien and Ursula Leguin. I mean, holy crap, I’m curious.
Anyway, I’m going to be posting a review, but not today. Today, I have a guest post by Rahima Warren about how to evoke a fantasy world. I’ve always been fascinated by the world-building ability of great fantasy writers, so I really enjoyed this post by the author. I hope you enjoy it, too.
