Imperfectly Beautiful by Diony George

At 1:30 am, in New York City, Regan Wright is ripped out of a sound sleep with a jolt – her heart thuds in her ears and her face feels flushed. Straining to hear anything out of the ordinary, she fumbles to turn on the bedside lamp. Nothing seems out of place. Suddenly her stomach twists in knots – it’s her identical twin, Rebecca. Something is terribly wrong…

Though twins, Rebecca and Regan couldn’t be more different.

Independent and outspoken, Regan chose a high-profile career as a fashion designer in New York City. Despite her hard-earned success, Regan’s become disillusioned by the glamour and the glitz. She’s tired of coming home to a lonely penthouse apartment welcomed only by her cat and has all but given up on ever finding “Mr. Right.”

Steady and reliable, Rebecca chose to be a wife and stay-at-home mom. From the very first moment she met James Conrad—tall and muscular with eyes as blue as a cloudless sky—she was captivated. Married and four children later, Rebecca’s life is not what she expected. Her marriage has lost its shine and her sweet babies have become challenging and often unappreciative children.

Both Rebecca and Regan must discover, a higher power has the answers to what matters most, but when a serial killer strikes nearby, and his victims look eerily similar to the twins, will it be too late? –Get this book on Amazon.

Care for a viral apocalypse? A review of The Passage by Justin Cronin.

What are virals, you say? Some call them smokes, jumps, or dracs. They’re lightning fast, strong, and utterly vicious. And they have a taste for blood. Imagine the world getting run over by these terrifying creatures. This is my review of Justin Cronin’s The Passage, one of the best books I’ve read in a while.

About the book

“It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die, another to be born.”

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, turned to hell. All that remains is the long fight ahead for the stunned survivors faced with a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse. As civilization crumbles, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project, and Brad is determined to protect her. But, for young Amy, escaping is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—toward the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun in the first place.

Of books, new jobs, ultimate frisbee, and other things

You guys remember the Budweiser TV ad? Pretty cool, right? Anyway, just felt like rambling on over here. I’m falling behind my “two non book related posts a week” thing so I wanted to do a quick update plus there are a few things I’m totally excited about and I just wanted to share my little bits of “happy” with you guys!

Reading like crazy

Before anything else I just want to give you my excuse for failing all my grand blogging and writing plans. Here it is. I’m trying to go through my review list before the year ends so I’ve been reading like crazy. I have 16 books on my list for this year. Yeahboy. I know. Definitely ambitious for me, but I bit off more than I can chew so now I’m scrambling like crazy. Haven’t joined any blog tour I liked unless it’s scheduled for next year. That means I’ll probably be in trouble next year. Woohoo! Good luck to me!

Review: The Rock of Ivanore by Laurisa White Reyes

I love fantasy books for young readers. They make for such light, easy and entertaining reads. The Rock of Ivanore by author Laurisa White Reyes was no exception.

About the book
The annual Great Quest is about to be announced in Quendel, a task that will determine the future of Marcus and the other boys from the village who are coming of age. The wizard Zyll commands them to find the Rock of Ivanore, but he doesn’t tell them what the Rock is exactly or where it can be found. Marcus must reach deep within himself to develop new powers of magic and find the strength to survive the wild lands and fierce enemies he encounters as he searches for the illusive Rock. If he succeeds, he will live a life of honor; if he fails, he will live a life of menial labor in shame. With more twists and turns than a labyrinth, and a story in which nothing is at it seems, this tale of deception and discovery keeps readers in suspense until the end.

September and October Report

Hullo! Time for another two-month recap of my crazy I-quit-you-corporate-Imma-work-at-home-like-a-boss life. Yeahboy. So, um, here’s the deal, Sparky. There hasn’t been any major change to my current freelancing situation. HAH. I know, right? It’s crazy. It really is.

Anyway, let me go back to the little plans I had back in early September when I hit a teeny weeny bump on the road to freelance greatness. I didn’t really say it back then, but I found myself in a slump-ish type of condition. I was kind of in a what-am-doing-with-my-life state for a moment there.

I had some to-do’s back in September as an attempt to get back into my Dizzizit It’s Time To Fly mode.
