I’m Kind of a Weirdo, and You Might Be, Too

Because Leah has been so generous as to devote a whole week to the launch of my book — *blush* — I think it’s time to introduce myself to you all. I’d love for you to do the same! Tell me in the comments who you are.
I don’t remember now how I came across author Dana Sitar’s blog DIY Writing, but I found myself there and started reading about how she upped and went away without any solid plan and became a freelance writer. I really liked her blog and when I read about A Writer’s Bucket List, I jumped at the chance to be one of the advanced reviewers.
Reading this book was perfect timing for me. It really put things in perspective. Like what I said in my new year post, when I decided to do the freelance writing thing full time, I wasn’t exactly sure what kind of writer or freelancer I wanted to be. Did I want to focus on article or blog writing? Copywriting? Book reviewing? Editing and proofreading? Or did I want to be in author PR and marketing? Did I want to be a novelist? This book helped me realize that maybe I didn’t have to label myself as one thing.

Okay, I haven’t really sat down and thought about my bucket list, but there are a couple of things that I already know I want to cross off this year. Wait, make that three things that I MUST cross off this year.

If God were a book-lover wouldn’t you be really annoyed if the only reason why he didn’t allow you to enter heaven is because you haven’t read a single book in your whole lifetime? (No, the required reading you did in school won’t count). While a lot of people do like to read, there are also a number who don’t and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. People are just different; it’s just as simple as that. However, if it would mean earning you a place in heaven, wouldn’t you want to ensure that you have a reserved seat for you up there? And God asked “So what books have you read?” You can at least name one or a few titles like:

Stories with a Twist

You know, lately I have been re-watching M. Night Shyamalan’s movies and I figured out why they appeal to me so much. I like a story that is less explosive action and more storyline. I also love the twist. You know; the one you can almost see coming but not quite. Suspense, to me, is much preferable to shock.

My name is Ashley and I own a book blog called booknook. My blog is still fairly new. I created it on April 11th 2012 as a way to document the books I read and jot down my thoughts about each one.
When I first decided to make the blog, I had no idea what the book blogging world was like. I didn’t realize that there was such an amazing and friendly blogging community out there! So while I originally just intended to jot down my thoughts about books, this has since proven to be a more rewarding experience than I imagined!
