5 Mistakes to Avoid in Your NaNoWriMo Novel [Infographic]
Where my WriMos at? How are you doing with your projects? I hope you’re all doing okay. Moi, on the other hand – I’m kind of failing this challenge. Hah. Coming into November, I had a whole bunch of ideas I didn’t really know what to do with and I changed my initial story a couple of days ago and I wrote about 200 words as an intro. Tada! Seriously though, I’m not broken up about it. My goal for NaNo is to just come out with a good outline that I can work on beyond this month’s madness. :)
Anyway, thought I’d share this nice little infographic by Grammarly. During last year’s NaNoWriMo, Grammarly worked with about 500 writers from 54 countries to crowdsource a novel. They then analyzed the resulting 40,000 or so words and uncovered some common writing mistakes. Find a summary of the top five in the infographic below! Plus, read more about Grammarly’s Novel Ideas Competition!
Why HELLO there, feelings. (Thanks, Adele)
The other day I finally listened to Hello by Adele. It may not have been the best of ideas to do so at this time of the month, but I did anyway and…
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) 2015
So, on a whim, I decided to sign up for NaNoWriMo. For those who don’t know, NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month is exactly what it sounds like – a whole month of novel writing. For the whole of November, participants (attempt to) work on a 50,000-word novel.
YEP, IMMA TRY TO WRITE A FRIGGIN’ NOVEL THIS MONTH, FOLKS.
Holy buffoonery, Batman.
Review: Rend The Dark by Mark Gelineau and Joe King
Rend the Dark by authors Mark Gelineau and Joe King is out today! I read this author duo’s first story A Reaper of Stone just last month and I found it so promising that I was so excited for the chance to read another one of their stories. In their blog, the authors describe Rend the Dark as a good old-fashioned action horror adventure. I happen to love horror and adventure so I was stoked to read it.
Read more about the book below and check out my review.
Top ten costume ideas for literary horror fans (a guest post)
Today we have Mark Gelineau, one of the authors of A Reaper of Stone (see my review a couple of posts back), and he has a fun Top 10 list for us. Checkitout! :)
——————————
Howdy all. My name is Mark Gelineau and I, along with my writing partner Joe King, are Gelineau and King. We are two long-time friends and the authors of the Echoes of the Ascended series.
We are releasing a novella a month. Each of them takes place in the same fantasy world, but there are four different series. A Reaper of Stone is a classic, cavalier story. Our next book, Rend the Dark, coming October 15, is a dark fantasy/horror adventure, perfect for the Halloween season.
Leah here at White Sky was kind enough to offer me a spot for a guest blog, and so I thought, in the spirit of the season, I would put forward some fun costume ideas. But let’s be honest. When it comes to horror, movies tend to get the lion’s share of representation in the costume department. So here, I wanted to offer up some costumes specifically for the LITERARY horror lover. Check them out.
Girl Crush Friday: Actress, writer, and cool girl Brit Marling
I’m writing about Brit Marling because I just saw Another Earth recently and holy crap it was gewd. Before I get to that let me tell you about how I discovered Brit Marling.
The first time I saw Brit Marling was in The East, a movie I caught on cable some time last year I think. It’s one of those quiet, charged films that you either love or hate. It’s about an operative (played by Brit) of a private intelligence company and she goes undercover to infiltrate an anarchist group that’s been covertly attacking big corporations. It’s a pretty interesting movie – emotional, makes you think, makes you feel slightly rebellious even. I was intrigued by Brit Marling (and Ellen Page! But that’s for another post). Brit just has this interesting aura about her. I googled the movie and found out that she wrote the movie with the director Zal Batmanglij. Great, she’s not only a talented actress, but she writes, too. Hashtag girl crushhh.
It’s World Teachers Day! [Infographic]
The quote by Sidney Hook (an American philosopher) above says, “Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system.” That’s so true, isn’t it? We may not remember anything or too much of what we learned in school, but we’re sure to remember at least one teacher who made a difference in our lives, even if it was just in a small way.
October 5 is World Teachers Day. It is also the culmination of National Teachers Month (which runs from September 5 to October 5) here in the Philippines. To celebrate, here’s an infographic dedicated to educators around the world and aimed at reminding everyone how important teachers are. :)

T-Shirt Thursday!
This week we changed the configuration of the fenced-in area for the puppies. We decided to give them a bigger space so now they have access to the most of the living room, including our couch. Little Max has already claimed the large pillow for his bed. Hairy part-husky boy Hero prefers to sprawl on the cold floor. It’s hard to keep Max from jumping on the couch so we decided to allow them on the couch except for the L-shape part, which happens to be my spot where I do all my stuff. Of course, it’s all they want to get to. Maybe it’s because that part is next to the window or maybe they just want to test my patience. LOL.
Anyhoo, all that have nothing to do with T-Shirt Thursday! Hurray it’s T-Shirt Thursday, friends! Yayyy. That is all.
