Bum life day 2

Official bum life day 1 was yesterday and I spent it surfing the net and watching TV at Carpet Head’s wifi zone and cable ready pad. Woohoo. Today I did a little errand at the bank, surfed the net, and opted for a book instead of the TV. Woohoo. So productive. Yay me!

Okay, so I’m not used to being a bum. I was a bum for about a year right after college, but that was ages ago. I’ve forgotten how it is to not go to work on a weekday. Anyway, I do have a semblance of a plan and it does include scouring for a job and all that grown up stuff, but I think for now I’m trying to have a few no-plan days before I launch into my plan B.

Cleaning house, er, cube

It’s my last week and I’ve been trying to clean up my work area. Trying is the operative word. Seven years and 11 months (eep!) of being a corporate lackey means a four-drawer filing cabinet crammed full of files and reports, a whole desk of loose papers and what not, three drawers full of admin files and personal stuff, and almost 40gb of electronic work files. Whoa.

I started with the easiest thing to back up – the electronic files. I have about 40gb to back up because I’ve also been keeping the backups of 4 former colleagues. The easiest thing to do was to just create DVD backups. I managed to organize everything into 8 discs, which I need to label in a bit after I finish this post. Hello, procrastination.

And so we count down to Plan B

Folks, I quit my job. There I said it.  Consider this the official announcement. Hah. I filed my notice early last week. Anyway, so there. By the end of August, I will be jobless. Hah. I have been thinking of upping and going for the last year or so but just couldn’t do it because I didn’t have another job waiting in the wings. This time, I’ve decided leaving is still the best move for me even without the shiny new job. Why stay when you’re clearly ready to move on, right? It was just a decision I had to make. Books to Movies: Battle Royale (Batoru Rowaiaru)

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Bloody good story. Since I already knew what it was about I already knew what to expect. Blood and gore, Japanese style.

For those who didn’t know, Battle Royale (Batoru Rowaiaru) is about a class of high school kids who find themselves in an island where they have to kill each other until only one of them survives. That storyline itself is pretty hard core. AND irresistible. When I got hold of the book, I was just itching to know how it all went down.

Surprise book #2 for the Books to Movies Challenge and a jampacked weekend

Presenting my next book for the books to movies challenge… Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Hells yeah. Okay, I know I made a friggin’ list, but I just gotta read this one next. I’ve heard of Battle Royale lots of times but I’ve never read the book or seen the movie, so when I saw this blood red beauty in the bookstore (I was looking for the books on my original list), I just grabbed it. Also, the fact that it was just less than 400 bucks made it real easy. Yeah, I’m kind of a cheapskate even with books – I always try to look for the cheaper edition. Anyway , this is friggin’ purrrfect for the challenge. I AM SO EXCITED. I did a little jig when I unwrappped it. Seriously.

Books to Movies Challenge – The Children of Men/Children of Men

Aha finally this wretched post is finished. Haha. I have joined this challenge out of my own free will and I must do what I must. I’m being melodramatic, and I must warn you, this is a damn long post. With spoilers. (Do you still call it spoiler if it’s about a friggin’ old movie??)

So, anyway, I think I saw the movie on cable a few years back. When I decided to join the Books to Movies Challenge, I had just bought the book a couple of days before that at a sale for a hundred bucks. That made it book choice #1 for the challenge. Holy convenience, Batman!

Second Look

Oh my gosh, we have THINGS! :P

Yay we are almost done with fixing our place. On the other side of this kitchen and dining showcase are our remaining stuff to be sorted and arranged. We still have our books and bags to display or store somewhere, and our old clothes and shoes to give away, but at least we’ve gotten rid of most of the clutter. And we shopped for groceries last night so at last we have FOOD! Yayyy we will liiiive!!

A First Look

We piled all our crap in a container van and moved them to our new apartment! Yes! Well, actually, the movers did all the piling and lifting and moving and what not. We did the pre-move stuffing of aforementioned crap into suitcases, bags, paper bags, and boxes. It took us several hours to pack away all our things.  How could one room fit so much crap?!? LOL. Anyway, it was all good. It was a pain to sort and pack, but at least we are now staying in a place all to ourselves.  Yayyy…
