Review & Giveaway: I Am Just Junco Dot Com by J.A. Huss

It’s my review stop for the I Am Just Junco Dot Com blog tour! This science fiction series by author J.A. Huss totally took me by surprise. “Just Junco” turns out to be a foul-mouthed super badass heroine and the series totally kicks ass.

In the first pages of book one we are introduced right away to Junco, our heroine who is by no means a girly-girl. She’s the type who knows all her weapons and firearms, would probably go nuts over a motorcycle helmet sale, and could care less about fashion and anything frilly. All she knows are secret military ops and assassinations. She’s been trained to be a ruthless killer since birth and she’s pretty good at what she does, but we learn that there’s so much more to her and everybody wants her for themselves. Everybody here means the aliens or Avians as they are called, and the humans, all the different factions and republics. They all have an agenda and Junco is right smack in the middle of it all.

Review of Bone Wires by Michael Shean

This is my review stop for Bone Wires, a dark science fiction mystery novel by Michael Shean. I joined this tour because the book title reminded me of the movie The Bone Collector and the blurb made me think of Criminal Minds and CSI! Sometimes the words science, forensics, detective, and serial killers just get at me when it comes to books, shows, and what not. Read more after the jump!

Gruesome Science: Generation by William Knight

About the book

A crime-thriller with an injection of horror

Journalist Hendrix “Aitch” Harrison links bodies stolen from a renowned forensic research lab to an influential drug company.

Aided by Dr. Sarah Wallace, a determined and beguiling entomologist, he delves into grisly world of clinical trials and a viral treatment beyond imagining.

But Aitch must battle more than his fear of technology to expose the macabre fate of the drugged victims donated to scientific research.

When I first heard about the book, I was a little hesitant about doing a review. I read the blurb, took one look at the muy creepy cover, and thought, “Oh man, zombies.” The blurb also mentioned words like sci-fi, crime and thriller, and I haven’t read a single crime thriller in a long time, so I wasn’t exactly in the mood for one. However, I decided to suck it up and give it a go as part of my personal reading and writing goals. WELL, I’m glad that I went ahead with it because it turned out to be even more interesting than I thought. Yes, it has sci-fi, crime, horror, and a little bit about the walking dead, and it was all gewd.

Finally I’ve caught up with The Games

The Hunger Games, that is. Yes, yes, it’s been a gazillion years since the first book of this ever so popular trilogy came out and the second and third have been out for quite some time. I just finished The Hunger Games yesterday. Carpet Head was finally able to dig up his copy from somewhere so I was able to get a hold of it. Not bad. Very Battle Royale. I liked it. I love that the main character is a strong woman. I could’ve done without the lovey dovey parts between the two leads though, but I guess it was essential to the story. If you’ve read the book, you know what I mean.

So, the movie’s coming out in March next year. I would watch it for Jennifer Lawrence, who’s playing the heroine. She’s gorgeous. I think at first fans weren’t sure if she could do the role justice, but I think she can make it work. I mean, hello, Winter’s Bone. That role got her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations and several other film awards. I haven’t seen it but I trust the film critics on this one.

Books to Movies Challenge – The Children of Men/Children of Men

Aha finally this wretched post is finished. Haha. I have joined this challenge out of my own free will and I must do what I must. I’m being melodramatic, and I must warn you, this is a damn long post. With spoilers. (Do you still call it spoiler if it’s about a friggin’ old movie??)

So, anyway, I think I saw the movie on cable a few years back. When I decided to join the Books to Movies Challenge, I had just bought the book a couple of days before that at a sale for a hundred bucks. That made it book choice #1 for the challenge. Holy convenience, Batman!
