Happy New Year, Friends!

I haven’t blogged for realz in months, but I feel like I should kick off the new year with a new post. The past year was a big one – having kicked it off by getting hitched – and I think this new one is going to be big as well. I was thinking of doing the usual ‘year in review’ and then my list for 2015, but I think I’ll just keep it simple this time.

About 2014

So this happened one year ago and life has never been the same. I know that’s such a cliche but it is what it is and it seems the past year was spent adjusting to a whole new life!

Whoa, 2012! Hey, 2013!

I’m thinking things will slow down a bit on this blog in the next couple of weeks since we’re all celebrating the holidays and all, so I want to take this time to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a Rockin’ New Year!

I also want to take this time to do a recap of 2012. It has been one helluva rollercoaster ride.

Of life-changing decisions

Well, you know it was supposedly my breakthrough year. Early this year, I decided to JUMP and do the freelance writing thing full time. I did (and still do sometimes) all sorts of freelance writing jobs–article and blog writing, product description writing, editing and proofreading. I did that short freelance writing series on my blog. I also made the decision to go into book blogging and that has changed my blogging habits tremendously. Although it has been really good to read and review books on my blog, I miss the old blogger me and come 2013 I’ll be fixing my blogging schedule. I also found myself in the author marketing and PR world when I started working with Novel Publicity and then with Daring Books.

Every week of every month this year has been a challenge for me to make rent and to figure out what kind of freelance writer I wanted to be. I’m still nowhere near a definite answer, but I do have an idea thanks to this great book by a freelance writer who has been down this road. I’ll tell you more about this book soon because it’s pretty awesome and has made me feel better about being all over the place when it comes to being a freelancer.

Of love, life, and ultimate

Outside of writing and blogging, 2012 has been a pretty awesome ultimate frisbee year. Back in June, I got to witness Carpet Head and the rest of Team Pilipinas show their heart and skills at the World Ultimate Championships in Japan. I also witnessed them take over Singapore Ultimate Open in September.

It has also been a great year for my beloved team the Ultimate Warriors. We started the year with the NYL Pool B championships. We also had a blast at this year’s Manila Spirits and we ended the year with a bang by placing in the top 3 at the Apollo Tournament.

The Warriors also had an epic Boracay Open 2012. And there were those awesome August long weekends where I ended up in three different islands in two weekends! There was that great weekend with Warriors and Roaches in Dumaguete and Siquijor, and that Puerta Princesa getaway with my soul sisters.

I’m probably forgetting a few other good things that happened this year, but it really has been a very busy year. I was broke the whole time, but deliriously happy most of the time. I feel so blessed to have such great family and friends. I feel that I owe it not only to myself but to those who have been so supportive to do better next year.

2012 has given me the first taste of what it means to do my own thing and next year I vow to work my ass off even harder to make 2013 even more hellish, more exciting and exponentially more awesome.

Thanks for hanging out with me this year! I’ll see you again next year, I hope. :)

2009 in Review

I drafted a “year in review” post last month, but didn’t get around to posting it before the year ended. When I read it again it looked long and boring so I chucked it.

This is my review of 2009.

My 2009 started slow and hard. I got sick. I went to the emergency room for the first time. Actually, I went TWICE. Also around that time or shortly thereafter, I lost my drive and motivation to work. It was so difficult going to work and being at work. But last summer I found loooove, or rather it found me, and everything became bright and sunshiny. Yihee. Not all the lows combined can beat that. For that and all the other highs I’ve experienced this year, I am thankful and still feel blessed. 2009 was great.

The End.

No, wait. I still wanna list some of the highlights of my 2009:

  • Carpet Head. Yay.
  • Finally visited the infamous island of Boracay for the annual Boracay Open 2009. It was the perfect excuse. Needless to say, I had a blast with the Warriors Is The Best Team Ever Team.
  • Went to Beijing with Carpet Head and his parents. My first time to visit a country that required a visa. Haha. Also the first time I realized that Carpet Head somewhat looks Chinese. Honestly never occurred to me. I just thought he has nice brown eyes. NAKS.
  • Malakas – Maganda 2009. The Waryoritas merged for the first time with girls from other teams. Yesss we are making friends.
  • Started running semi-regularly with Carpet Head. I still can’t run 5k without stopping, but that’s one of my to-do’s for 2010.
  • Weddings galore. Two with Warriors and two with Carpet Head’s friends from college. Carpet Head has another couple friend getting married next year and I have two. Can anybody recommend a dressmaker? I think I should just have dresses made for these things.
  • Finally got myself registered. I can vote now. Yay.

The End. Really.

2008 in Review

I’m flying home tomorrow so this will most probably be my last post of the year. It’s a good time as any to do a brief recap of ’08. Holy smokes! I think this is the first time I do a year recap. Fabulous.

This has been a fantastic year for me personally. I remember feeling positive and free going into it, and now I feel positive and free leaving it. Sure there were some stressful times, some really down moments, and there’s the financial crisis, but I’ve been so blessed this year that the good just simply outnumber the bad.

What made my 2008 great (in no particular order):

  • Getting my wings. And I still have plans for it next year. :)
  • The trips to HK (Disneyland!), Macau, and Bangkok. Plus the 5+ hours in Singapore. Finally put my passport to good use and it was so great to travel with friends and colleagues. Next time, I hope I’ll get to travel with my sister and other friends.
  • Getting promoted. At least how I feel about my work life took a turn for the better. I guess it’s really about perspective and attitude.
  • Everything Ultimate! All the games and leagues, the parties, the new team mates and friends, the out-of-town trips, and of course Spirits! I hope next year the Warriors will go on to be more solid, stronger and fun-loving. :)
  • My sister moving to Manila. Nice to have big sister in the big city. :P
  • Moving back to Makati
  • Incubus live in concert
  • My friends throwing me a surprise birthday party. You know I love you, friends! I’ll act more surprised next time. Hehh.
  • Cutting off my hair! Short chops are THE. COOLEST. EVER. Best thing I’ve done in years to change my look. Safe to say my short chops are staying for while. :P
  • Going back to books. I’m just glad I’ve been reading more. Thanks to all the National Bookstore sales!
  • All the great and not-so-great movies I watched with fabulous company
  • Friday billiards nights a.k.a. Nights of Pure Awesome. Hah. I don’t know if my game improved, but it’s been loads of fun. I hope we get to do this for a long long time.

So, big thanks to the Higher Power for everything. I gained a lot of perspective and definitely learned a lot more about myself and about stuff in general. Woohoo. :P

Let’s see what 2009 has for us. :)
